Background and Qualifications
I qualified as a London blue badge tourist guide in 1980 and since then have taken people from all over the world around the capital. For many years I also worked for Trafalgar as a tour manager taking groups on extended tours through Britain and Ireland. I am now concentrating on working freelance as a tourist guide and tour manager.
My main interests are in literature and history but I have taken groups of farmers from Australia and Freemasons from Canada, religious groups and Harry Potter fans, choirs from the USA and locals from the UK. I am particularly interested in ancient Britain, its stone circles and hill carvings.
I am qualified to take tours through Westminster Abbey, Saint Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London, Windsor Castle, York Minster, the British Museum and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. I also conduct walking tours of cities like Oxford, York and Chester as well as the west end of London and Brixton in South London.
I am a member of the Association of Professional Tourist Guides, the Guild of British Tourist Guides and the Institute of Tourist Guiding and have third party liability insurance. I have been passed by the DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) to conduct tours with children, which I have done many times.
Whether the tour lasts an hour or a month, I take great pride in attention to detail and personal attention to all my clients, wherever they come from and whatever their background and interests.
